Fodor's Review

This bustling metropolis obtained the prestigious French label of Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (town of art and history). It's home to museums, monuments, ruins, libraries, center for the arts and culture, entertainment venues, churches, squares, and fountains. In Pointe-à-Pitre you can browse in the street stalls around the harbor quay and at the two markets (the best is the Marché de Frébault). The town's main shopping streets with lots of French merchandise, from pâte to sexy lingerie, are rue Schoelcher, rue de Nozières, and the busy rue Frébault. At the St-John Perse Cruise Terminal, there's an attractive mall with about two dozen shops.
