Laluna Review

You may think you've landed on an island in the South Pacific when you reach this upscale resort, which is hidden away on a pristine beach near Grenada's Quarantine Point. Laluna's large thatched-roof cottages—each with its own plunge pool—line the beachfront and climb 10 acres of wooded hillside. Bedrooms in the breezy, open-plan cottages, which are all the same except for their location and color scheme, open onto large verandahs that serve as indoor-outdoor sitting areas. Bathroom showers are partially exposed to the outdoors. Seven luxury hillside villas were added in 2012 as the first phase of Laluna Estate, a villa community on a waterfront bluff next to the hotel. Laluna's guests congregate at its comfortable beachfront lounge and bar and have free access to a small CD and video library, a couple of bikes, and a kayak or two. A resident yogi provides instruction in yoga, Pilates, tai chi, and meditation. The restaurant, which specializes in Italian fare, opens directly onto the beach for a perfectly romantic setting. The resort faces west, assuring beautiful sunset views. No dress code, no rules, no set dinnertime, no problem.

Thatched-roof cottages, each with its own plunge pool, line the beach and climb 10 acres into wooded hillside. Laluna faces west, assuring beautiful sunsets from cottage verandahs or the beachfront bar/lounge. The restaurant features authentic Italian cuisine (most ingredients are imported from Italy) served in a romantic, open-air setting or by candlelight on the beach. No rules, no dress code, no set dinnertime, no problem.

    Laluna Review

    My husband and I spent our honeymoon here. We also went back again and planned a third trip for New Year's Eve 2010. Due to the snowstorm that crippled the East Coast we were unable to reach Grenada, and although the airlines refunded our money, the hotel did not. It is beautiful, but not worth losing over $7,000 for a vacation we never took. Sadly I would not recommend the hotel on the basis of this policy alone, which I had never heard of before. Nor did I expect to be treated in such a terrible manner by the owner of the hotel.
