Fodor's Expert Review Cabier Ocean Lodge
Grenada
Definitely off the beaten path and in a truly natural environment, Cabier Ocean Lodge is a combination guesthouse, restaurant/bar, petting zoo, and donkey ranch—all on a remote point of land high above the sea on Grenada's windward (eastern) coast. Guests have the run of the property, which extends down to secluded, reef-protected Cabier Beach and inland to the main road (about a 15-minute hike). Snooze in a hammock, rest and reflect on the beach, take a nature walk, participate in a creole or French cooking workshop. Rooms in the lodge itself surround a little zoo with rescued animals: a monkey, possum, armadillo, manicou, birds, and other small creatures; goats and donkeys roam the hillside. Several rooms have kitchenettes. Two villa units—with full kitchens, broad terraces, and a private infinity-edge pool—are especially suitable for families. This is a paradise for hikers, bird-watchers, and naturalists, while families enjoy the truly relaxed environment. The restaurant serves excellent cuisine and draws patrons from beyond the premises for both lunch (and the view) and dinner.
