Hotel Costa Larimar Review

Although it's one of the best options in downtown Barahona, this is not a destination hotel. The sign says that this is "where your dreams come true," but it's doubtful that this will be your idea of a sweet dream. However, a recent change in ownership has brought significant improvements. What's broken was fixed, the new lobby furniture is attractive, everything is clean, and the elevators in these two mid-rise buildings now go up and down. The facade and layout, including a pool, within steps of a beach fronting a small tree-covered isle, is quite inviting, but swimming in Barahona's own bay is not advisable. Guest rooms are spacious and have American cable TV and nearly-new bedding. You will be treated nicely, and the breakfast buffet may be uninspired, but it is served by the pool. (Don't add a full meal plan to your stay; the regular buffet grub isn't worth it.) Business travelers are often here midweek, and Dominican families prevail on weekends.
