Fodor's Review:

Called a Plantation Village Retreat, this 12-acre property is dedicated to eco-tourism and sustainable development. It operates as a base camp for groups and mission trips, offering rustic, palapa-style accommodations on a mountainside with a spectacular ocean view. The Village can accommodate up to 48 people with flexible meal plans and logistical support. Set back from the coast, it's on the first inland ridge some 1,000 feet above sea level. Santiago is less than an hour's drive along a spectacular, winding mountain road. There are private lockers, shared bathroom facilities, a game room, and hiking trails; beach access is 15 minutes away. Pros: Authentic rural setting that's still 15 minutes from Puerto Plata airport, all the necessary facilities and services including clean water, power, and even Wi-Fi, spectacular views. Cons: You have to book the entire retreat, sleeping and bathing facilities are shared, limited public transportation options due to remote location.
