Maxim Bungalows

Fodor's Review:

On a hillcrest overlooking its sister resort, Sun Village, this is unequivocally a level above the luxury in most of the Puerto Plata area resorts. The "bungalows" here are actually luxurious condominiums, which look like sexy bachelor pads. Characterized by dark hard woods, they are strikingly chic, sleek, and uncluttered with lots of leather and modern art. It's all quality and cutting-edge, from the shiny metal kitchen surfaces to the flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and surprisingly, a retro Murphy bed in the living room. Guests can chill in the communal lounge with top-shelf liquors, play in the private pool, or work out with a trainer. Larger units can be created by combining two or more larger units. Pros: The restaurant and its 24-hour room service are top-notch,VIP treatment at the airport and complementary transfers in new SUVs, guests can dine at any of the Sun Village restaurants for free. Cons: The private beach, beachside pool, and spa are not on-site, pretty pricey for the region, minimalist decor will not appeal to everyone.
