Smack amid the action, steps down from the main drag, this small, German-owned inn encapsulates the original spirit of Cabarete. It caters to the independent traveler and the young and sporty who want more commodious digs than a surf camp. Enjoy an ample breakfast at Serenada, the beachside restaurant, which is sheltered from the wind by translucent kite boards borrowed from the kite-surfing center; your fellow coffee drinkers may be shielded by German and French newspapers. By night, the revamped restaurant serves international cuisine, with special buffet theme nights, cool sounds, and a fun crowd. The interiors may be a bit dated, but this beach hotel is an excellent value—it even has free in-room DSL lines. Request the quiet rooms (the second floor up to the penthouses) that front the beach. Pros: Right in the middle of things, efficient and caring German owner. Cons: Small pool, noise of town can be heard in the buildings closest to the street, rooms are on the small side.
