Laze in the hammock or swing on the palm that bends over the beach while you watch the kite surfers work to become airborne. They're the only thing between you and the horizon at this well-managed hotel and residential enclave with its own beachfront and manicured gardens studded with cacti, orchids, and pottery. Well-heeled Dominicans, hip Americans, and other international guests appreciate that it's removed from the noise of town yet just minutes down the sand from the happening bars. The spacious two-bedroom suites and three-bedroom penthouses with full kitchens are the best deals and can be divided into smaller units, including standard rooms (without kitchens) if you're just a couple. Guests in standard rooms get a complimentary breakfast at the private beach restaurant. You might ask for the Art Deco Building 111, which has all been repainted. The views from the penthouses are knockout and an excellent value if three couples share. Ask about the 10% discount for cash. Pros: Blenders, microwaves and DVDs in the junior suites and above, new Balinese sunbeds at the pool are wonderfully hedonistic, a popular wedding and honeymoon venue. Cons: No elevators, all spiral staircases, standard rooms are not spacious.

I have traveled far and wide but seldom have I ever encountered such a tranquil and lovely setting as Velero Beach Resort. I stumbled across the place mostly because TripAdvisor had it rated do highly. Now I know why.
The resort is really a condo/hotel nestled right on the crescent tip of the Cabarete beach. The location is perfect because you are close enough to enjoy the nightlife without having to contend with its constant musical bombardment. You can exercise on the beach (they have a yoga lady), hang in a hammock, nosh at the beach club and never have to leave the premises.
I will definitely be back to Velero Beach Resort and recommend it highly to anyone, travel savvy or newbie, who is trekking along the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
