Meliá Santo Domingo Hotel & Casino Review

With a good location on the Malecón, this deluxe high-rise is among those closest to the Zona Colonial. The concierge-level rooms have always offered a pleasurable way to do business or have a pampered urban vacation. For about 15% more per person (above the cost of a regular room), you can get your clothes ironed, shoes shined, hookup to a DSL line, have a free breakfast in the ocean-view lounge, and enjoy premium cocktails and hors d'oeuvres during happy hour. A major (and necessary) renovation, starting with the lobby and its domes and moving on to the meeting rooms and club level and then the remainder of the guest rooms, is still a work in progress, floor by floor, and it should be finished by early 2011. When reserving, be sure to ask for a newly renovated room. Meliá's Coppa Bar is popular. Sashay in around midnight or beyond and dress up. As a hotel bar, it's not subject to the normal curfew.
