New in 2006, this is one of the southwest's better lodging options overlooking a "private" beach snug in its tranquil shore. The rooms are quite comfortable, and there's cable TV, though no English-language channels. The hotel's architectural design is unattractive, just two stucco blocks of units, and the second tier rooms, which are right behind the first row (reserve these), have no sea views. Cheap is the operative word here: cheap furnishings, bathroom fixtures, construction, including the cracked plastic tables and sagging Presidente umbrellas around the pool. Although the co-owners are French (the couple's partner is Dominican), the decor is strictly local, and the only thing French here is the crepes. Pros: Good value for the money, nice rocking chairs on front porch and under thatch-capped gazebos. Cons: Lacks class or much spirit, young staff is green and poorly trained, though nice.
