An oasis in this neighborhood of simple, one-room wooden casitas, this walled and gated complex is impressive from the street. Inside the compound are two buildings with a pool between. The first two-story building houses a restaurant and the owner's dwelling; the other building is the family's former home, now hotel rooms centered around a salon with Italian leather furniture and an attractive mural of exotic birds and banana trees. The bedrooms are not as attractive as the common areas, but three newer rooms have sea views and handsome desks and furnishings from the owner's native Italy, though at twice the price as the older rooms. What is certain is the sincere hospitality of Giordano and his family, not to mention their wonderful restaurant. Pros: The location is closer to the national parks than hotels near Bahoruco, great Italian restaurant, proximity to a fun beach. Cons: No phones though TVs promised, rooms and appliances were not particularly well-maintained, no English spoken.
