Cons
Hotel Costa Larimar Review
Although it's one of the best options in downtown Barahona, this is not a destination hotel. The sign says that this is "where your dreams come true", but it's doubtful that this will be your idea of a sweet dream. However, a recent change in ownership has brought significant improvements. What's broken was fixed, the new lobby furniture is attractive, everything is clean, and the elevators now go up and down. The facade and layout, including a pool within steps of a beach fronting a small tree-covered isle, is quite inviting, but swimming in Barahona's own bay is not advisable. Guest rooms are spacious and have American cable TV and new, nice bedding. You will be treated nicely, and the breakfast buffet may be uninspired, but it is served by the pool. (Don't add a full meal plan to your stay; the regular buffet grub isn't worth it.) Business travelers are often here midweek, and Dominican families prevail on weekends.
