This small gem was once the country home of the Schiffino family; well, it's still in the family but has been reborn as a small luxury hotel that still retains the warmth of a family-owned lodge. Acclaimed architect Rafael Selman has added new architectural elements, including some Indonesian design and thatched-roof cabanas have been brought to the next deluxe level, with contemporary lighting and natural materials like tabla de palma (wood slats of palm). Private balconies allow you to hear the river below and see the cloud forest above. The excellent breakfast is served in the palapa-topped restaurant that segues into the salon. Both overlook an infinity pool with its singular palm and the sea beyond. Unquestionably, this is the most stellar option in the entire southwest. Pros: Celestial, panoramic vistas allow you to chill and enjoy the area, manicures and massages can be had poolside, iPod-ready clock radios and Jacuzzi poolside. Cons: Hotel is somewhat remote, not all staffers are fluent in English.
