Sr. Giordano Mettifego is as good a chef as he is a photographer, which is how he made his living in his native Italy. After he "retired" to the D.R. with his young Dominican bride, Eva, this caballero became a restaurateur and hotelier. Pastas are his specialty; while other restaurants may do a carbonara, this is the real thing. Similarly, he makes his own gnocchi and authentic pizzas. A delicious sauce of fresh-peeled tomatoes with Italian olive oil arrives on fresh fish, and his octopus is marinated with the same fine oil and imported vinegar. Chicken Milanese is a delightful change, and there are great ice creams and lemon sorbet for dessert. His three young children make this a real family affair. The delicious bread? Giordano's 12-year-old daughter makes that.
