La Descubierta

Fodor's Review:

La Descubierta is your gateway to Lago Enriquillo and a good shopping destination for local wares and, if you're lucky, Haiti's Barbancourt Rum. Organized tours to the lake do not stop in the town, but if you're driving, you may want to take a look, though it's hardly a life experience. Although the cold, natural pool of Las Barias Balneario, which is across the street from the town park, we recommend that you not swim in the water because of the possibility of disease, though Dominicans swim with few worries.
