This major Malecón property is still not one of InterContinental's glamour properties, but it does a lot right. All rooms—not just the luxe ones on the Club Level with sea-view balconies—have been redone in subtle earth tones, more masculine than tropical cheery. They don't have much local feel, but they are fine. The international cuisine at hotel restaurants is memorable, from the ample breakfast buffet to gastronomic dinners. Service is professional, and conferences run smoothly. Leisure time can be spent on the swanky pool deck, where discerning attendants dispense frosty drinks and plush, pastel towels, or at the classy casino. Pros: Good security, beautiful pool area, professional English-speaking staff. Cons: Rooms could be in a large chain hotel anywhere, service can be impersonal.
