Fodor's Review

Expect the proprietressYaquelín (and the most outgoing of some eight owners of these small independent kitchens) to come out and solicit you when she sees you trying to figure this place out. That's the charm of the kiosk, the collection of outdoor eateries that's the soul of Las Galeras. Kiosko is the big palapa-capped space at the end of the road just before the beach. All the local vendors pretty much offer the same thing: beer, squid, pork, shrimp, and fish, but each

is represented by a hand-painted wooden sign. Lobster served in the native coconut style is more expensive than other dishes and is served with rice, potatoes, beans, and a salad. If you worry about hygiene—there is no running water—and don't like stray dogs begging for food, this may not be the place for you. Local expats will tell you that tourists complain of stomach ailments, particularly after having the langosta.
