Fodor's Review

Decidedly one of the better hotels in the eastern corner of the peninsula, Villa Serena makes for a wonderful, stress-free Samaná vacation. The secluded, oceanfront location is removed from the business of the main beach, but it's close enough to walk to town. Included in the price are the use of kayaks, bicycles, and snorkeling equipment. The views of El Cayito and of the long pier are a large part of the joy. In the newer wing, the sensational Room 17 has two balconies and a hammock overlooking the beach. Newer rooms have bamboo canopy beds with covering scrims. The new East Indian chef marries Dominican flavors with some Indian and European dishes, with menu items that are unique in the area like chicken curry with basmati rice and mango rayta and lentil fritters with coconut sauce.

There are yoga and zumba classes and excursions are available directly from the premises.

They can include a drop-off at quiet Playa Rincón for the day by a local fisherman, hiking, and horseback riding.
