Getting Here and Around
Many resorts offer transfers from the airport; these can be arranged in advance. There are also taxis waiting to carry arriving passengers to their final destinations. Once you've collected your luggage at the airport, head for the exit, where shuttle vans and taxis will be waiting. If you have arranged for a ride ahead of time, look for the line of drivers holding placards with names on them, or seek out the kiosk for your rental-car company. Most resorts in Punta Cana, Cap Cana (Juanillo), and Bávaro are a 15- to 30-minute drive away. Those in Macao and Uvero Alto are 40 minutes to an hour away. If you're driving a rental car, note that road maps for the entire region are poorly designed and incomplete. Factor in limited street signs, and it becomes difficult to get around when you are unfamiliar with the area. Be sure to get detailed directions. It also helps to carry a cell phone activated for local use.
