Secrets Royal Beach

  • Nightly entertainment and dancing at the main plaza
  • Fun activities like cooking competitions on the beach
  • Exceptional 17,000-square-foot Spa by Pevonia

  • Beach vendors and overzealous entertainment crew can be annoying
  • All rooms can be loud, but tropical/garden-view rooms especially don't compare
  • Wi-Fi is slow and costly

Fodor's Review

The lobby at this sceney, adults-only all-suites resort is like a modern art gallery, but the Caribbean-accented guest rooms do not quite match these high expectations, though the white-sand beach is glorious. Two à la carte restaurants, Oceana (seafood) and the Seaside Grill (with steaks), are particularly good; the international buffet is global indeed, and there are unlimited premium-brand liquors. The bonus is that just adjacent is the sister resort, the family-friendly Now Larimar Punta Cana, where Secrets guests have access to all facilities, including restaurants. Basic junior suites have playful contemporary decor and furnishings. While swim-out rooms open directly onto the lazy-river pool, second-floor rooms have better sea views, while third-floor rooms are the best of all. Upgrade to the Preferred Club if possible, where extra perks, pampering, and free Wi-Fi are worth the up-charge. Avoid rooms overlooking the family pool at Now Larimar and the plaza with its nightly entertainment.
