Other Hotel Choices

Punta Cana is awash in hotels. Those recommended in this chapter are our favorites, but there are others worth considering, such as: $$ ($270-$350) Catalonia Bávaro (Bávaro. 809/412-0000. www.cataloniabavaro.com) offers 711 rooms from this Spanish chain and draws a heavily European clientele.

$$ ($225-$325) Hotel Grand Oasis Punta Cana (Cabeza de Toro. 809/686-9898. www.hotelesoasis.com) is a handsome, English-Caribbean style all-inclusive resort with 450 rooms along Cabeza de Toro beach. The lobby is bright and inviting, with an ivory-tone, marbleized floor, buttercup yellow walls and elegant, spiral staircases with iron railings. A similar palette of color is in the guest rooms, which have four-post beds, Jacuzzi tubs and a balcony or terrace. There's a pretty pool and the beach is fetching with its white sand and palm trees sprouting up everywhere. The Metamorphosis Spa, with its meditation garden, offers a sleek sanctuary; conversely, there's a fun casino and a disco. There's also a gym, tennis courts and activities for the kids.

$$ ($236-$276) LTI Beach Resort Punta Cana Golf & Spa (Carretera Arena Gorda, Bávaro. 809/221-6640. ltibeachresort.com) offers up a full basket of all-inclusive services, four restaurants, and several bars to appease guests. There are all sorts of daytime activities, with boogie boarding and catamarans among the nonmotorized water sports included. One highlighted extra is the wellness program in the Metamorphosis Spa. In the evenings, nightly shows, a disco and a casino (with a free shuttle), are among the options. Within the resort, the 47 junior suites at the Cayena Beach Club offer an exclusive level of luxury.
