Fodor's Review:

Although Punta Cana is the land of all-inclusives, this landmark draws the tourist crowds, who willingly pay a fixed price for drinks, boat transportation, and the parrillada mixta (a mix of seafood -- mussels, baby lobsters, fresh fish, squid, shrimp) with fries and tomato salad, followed by coffee, fruit, and shots of fiery mamajuana(herbal liqueur). Sit in the sand at the water's edge and watch as the fishermen hang their catch up by the tail. It's wild and crazy as mariachis play Ai, yai, yai, vendors hawk Haitian art, and waiters sprint to the beach tables delivering sizzling metal cauldrons of the signature dish.

Rip Off

Posted by kavingaj from Oakland, California, USA on 2/28/08
I was ripped off at this restaurant in January 2005. One plate of red snapper going for $80. I was p.o. but just had to pay and pretended like everything was okay. From then on I started eating from the local restaurants.

Captain Cooks Restaurant - Rip Off!!

Posted by Dougmatt from Toronto on 2/23/08
In 2004 during our stay in Punta Cana two couples went to Captain Cooks for lunch - we paid $50.00 for two trays of sea food and four beers. In January 2008 we took another couple with us to celebrate a Birthday; BIG MISTAKE!! We never bothered to inquire as to the price, we got a bill for $238.50 USD for two trays of sea food + 4 beers, this included a 16% tax? Stay away from Captain Cooks at all costs - be very cautious, something very wrong has taken place at this establishment over the past few years. Read all signs (hidden behind the cashiers location) only in spanish) before you consider ordering anything, you will find that the sign does state the cost of sea food plater is $1600 Dominican Dollars which is approx $50.00 USD per person, not the cost of the platter.

Captain's Cook

A complete rip-off, no actually a robbery. The bill arrived and was 4 times the price on the menu $600!). Two Dominicans were placed at the door and escorts provided to an ATM to pay for the meal. The authorities are being notified. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Amazing how a seemingly bona fide restaurant can extort from the "ugly Americans" with impunity.
