Victorian House

$$$, North Coast

Fodor's Review:

Roosted on a cliff above breathtaking Sosúa Bay, this boutique hotel is a delightful replica of a Victorian gingerbread house. It's much more low-key and not as densely populated as its sister property, the Sosúa Bay Hotel, next door. (You can pipe into its all-inclusive plan.) Check-in is at a white-pillared cottage, originally a settlement house for Jewish refugees in the 1940s. There, multilingual concierges pamper independent travelers; at 5 each afternoon you get luscious hors d'oeuvres and fresh mimosas. Beds have dreamy new mattresses, European duvets, and six down pillows. Terraces have teak chaises and ever-changing knockout views. This is no longer a Starz Resort.
