Iberostar's reputation for excellent cuisine has helped to cement its popularity with families and incentive groups. The breakfast buffet is a "Yes!" El Colonial, the gourmet room, may be one of the best in the all-inclusive world. Its idyllic beach with its lighthouse bar, doesn't hurt, either. The crowd here is an interesting mix with some very attractive younger types, hip families with young kids, enough French to warrant the bars stocking Ricard, and seniors who are staying as long as three weeks. A recent party honoring repeat guests numbered 125. One hip baby-boomer couple, enjoying their ninth visit, testified that they had stopped looking for any other destination! Junior suites are worth the few dollars more. This resort has familial warmth as well as a definite fun quotient.

Best all-inclusive out of the 5 we have visited.

This is a beautiful property. Excellent facilities, clean, and well maintained. People are friendly and helpful. Food is fine, and verges on great in the specialty restaurants. No hassle reservations. We go one 1 or 2 vacations every year, usually to new locations. Of the many places we have visited, this may be the only place we would return. Pool-side drink service would make it perfect. By the way, the beach is great, and we are not real beach people. The drive from Punta Cana is a little long, fly into LaRomana if possible. Don't waste a day going to Santo Damingo, too long of a bus ride for what you will see.

Excellent honeymoon

We just returned from our fabulous honeymoon (Dec. 4-11).
Jimmy at reception took great care to explain everything to us. My only suggestion is to verify your room type before they whisk you off. They had us listed as honeymooners, and when we got to our room, the complimentary bottle of rum and flower arrangement were there, however, they gave us a room with 2 double beds. The bellman who drove us to our room took care of it very quickly and we were moved to a king bedded room on a different floor.
The rooms were clean and spacious with pleasant decor and a nice balcony.
The grounds were beautiful. The pictures I've seen don't do the resort justice. There were multitudes of paths with trees and flowers and fountains.
We were able to eat at all of the a la carte restaurants, as well as, the buffet. The Japanese restaruant was, by far, our favorite. The Mexican and staekhouse restaurants was finebut the entrees were decent. The gourmet restaurant was our least favorite--the lobster was cooked to mush and the grayish muck was all over it. We really enjoyed the main buffet. We ate breakfast and lunch there every day and had dinner a couple of times. There was a wide--and often strange-- variety of foods, so there was something for everyone. Many of the items were quite delicious. Don't miss the soft ice cream machine in the steakhouse lunch buffet--the cones are stale but it's what's inside that counts, yummy!
The animacion team was really friendly and upbeat. We stopped by for the evening shows a couple of times but they were not appealing to us at all. They would be great for kids.
Service was phenomenal, especially at the restaurants. There were a couple of people on staff that could have been much more friendly and helpful, but I hope they were just having a bad day when I encountered them. We tried our best to speak a little Spanish but we had no problem communicating with the staff.
