Although the island has a few brown-sand beaches, they are not a major draw. One of the things you do come for is diving, which can be tremendous, particularly in the protected Scotts Head Marine Reserve. Whale-watching is also spectacular from November through February, and hiking in the island's completely undeveloped rain forest reserves is exciting any time of the year. The island's best beach is Champagne, which has steam vents from an underwater volcano just offshore; swimming here is a real experience—you'll feel as if you are adrift in warm, effervescent champagne.
