Fodor's Review

One of the island's first bastions of defense, built in 1635, this fort was crucial to protect the harbor, and there is still a cannonball stuck in its wall that was fired by the infamous Captain Bligh's men. Now Ft. Amerstdam houses the Governor's residence, the parliament, the United Protestant Church (Fortchurch) and museum, and some government offices. Many tours of Willemstad begin here.
