Fodor's Review

A fragment of this 19th-century jail has been preserved as the Cárcel José Martí, commemorating the national hero's 1869–70 incarceration here as an adolescent advocate of and activist for independence. It contains four cells and a chapel presently used for concerts and art exhibits.
