Air-conditioned Víazul buses depart from Havana for Trinidad daily at 8:15 am and 1 pm, stopping in Cienfuegos four hours later. Buses depart from Havana for Santiago at 5 pm and 8 pm, stopping in Santa Clara (about 2½ hours later), Sancti Spíritus (4½ hours), Ciego de Ávila (5½) hours, and Camagüey (7 hours). There's also a bus from Varadero to Trinidad departing at 7:30 am (6 hours). Buses depart from Trinidad for Havana at 7:45 am and 3 pm, Varadero at 2:30 pm, and Santiago at 8:15 am. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time.
Less comfortable (no a/c) Astro buses, which have offices in most major terminals, serve the same routes for less money, but because of vehicle and gas shortages, they're sometimes cancelled and often run late. Always call ahead. Astro does, however, cover routes that Víazul doesn't, and may offer seats when Víazul is full—several seats on every bus are reserved for tourists. At this writing, there were departures from Havana for Cienfuegos at noon (returning at 10 am); for Santa Clara at 8 pm (returning at 12:30 pm); and for Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, and Camagüey at 9:20 am and 7:45 pm (returning at 12:30 and 11:30 pm, 10:30 am and 9:30 pm, 8 am, and 7 pm, respectively). From Havana, buses take 4½ hours to reach Cienfuegos, 3½ hours to Santa Clara, 4½ hours to Sancti Spíritus, 5½ hours to Trinidad, 7½ hours to Ciego de Ávila, and 9½ hours to Camagüey.
From Santa Clara there are daily departures for Varadero at 9 am, for Cienfuegos at 7:20 and 11:20 am, Sancti Spíritus at 8 am and 5 pm, Trinidad at 1:20 pm, and Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey at 7 pm. Daily buses to Remedios depart at 6:40 and 9 am and 2:30 pm from Santa Clara's Terminal Provincial. From Cienfuegos, buses depart daily for Santa Clara at 5:30 and 9 am, Trinidad at 6:30 and 11:30 am, and Cumanayagua at 6:30 am. From Sancti Spíritus, departures for Santa Clara are at 6 am and 2 pm, for Trinidad every other day at noon, and for Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey every other day at 7 am. Buses leave Trinidad for Sancti Spíritus daily at 7 am and Cienfuegos daily at 9 am and 2:15 pm, and Santa Clara every other day at 5 pm. Ciego de Ávila has daily departures for Camagüey at 5 am and 4:40 pm, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos at 7 am, and Morón at 4 pm. From Camagüey, departures for Cienfuegos are at 4:30 pm on odd days and 8 am on even days, for Sancti Spíritus every other day at noon, and for Santa Clara every other day at 7 am. Buses leave Camagüey's Terminal Inter-Municipal for Playa Santa Lucía at 5:30 am, returning at 8 am.
