This cool, luxuriant valley full of idyllic swimming holes makes an excellent day trip from Cienfuegos. The entrance to the region is marked by a rustic restaurant. From here, footpaths lead to a series of pools filled with emerald waters and two crystalline waterfalls surrounded by greenery. Be on the lookout for the great lizard cuckoo, the emerald hummingbird, and the Cuban trogon—the national bird. The tour company Rumbos offers cheap excursions here, which are the best option since the road is often too rough for most vehicles.
