Hotel E La Unión Review

Inaugurated in 1869, this stately hotel in the heart of Ciengfuegos is Cuba's oldest. Photos in the foyer show it as a center of activity in the early 1900s, but it was neglected after the Revolution and was in ruins before the government rebuilt it in 1999. The result is a new hotel done in 19th-century style, with wide arches, painted columns, and quiet courtyards populated with potted plants. Rooms have high ceilings, white-tile floors, faux antiques, and modern amenities. The bright-blue restaurant serves an inventive selection of Cuban cuisine and fresh seafood.
