The vibrant food at Ortanique lives up to its nickname, "Cuisine of the Sun." It's an outpost of chef Cindy Hutson and Delius Shirley's Miami Ortanique, which helped revolutionize Floribbean fusion fare. The interior gleams in rich yellows and oranges that subtly recall plantation living, though prize seating is on the patio, shaded by sea grape trees overlooking a small islet. Cuisine of the Sun emphasizes Caribbean and South American gastronomy infused with Asian inspirations. Executive Chef Sara Mair, a semifinalist on Top Chef, reinvents classics with an island twist: witness jerk-rubbed foie gras, cooled by burnt-orange marmalade, or plump Mediterranean mussels in Red Stripe broth with shallots, Scotch bonnet peppers, tomatoes, and Jamaican thyme. Or try the signature jerked double pork chop, its fire tamed by guava-spiced rum glaze. Save room for such decadent desserts as a deceptively airy Cloud of Coconut Joy or rum-soaked banana fritters.
