Fodor's Review

This class act appeals to a casual, suave crowd, many of them regulars, who appreciate its consistent quality, efficient service, soothing seaside setting, top-notch entertainment, and surprisingly reasonable prices. The space is cannily divided into four areas, each with its own look and feel, including private beach cabanas (no extra charge). Co-owner–chef George Dahlstrom gives his perfectly prepared, familiar items just enough twist to satisfy jaded palates: calamari is fried in arborio rice batter with jalapeño aioli while Chilean sea bass swims amid Thai salad and homemade wontons. The Royal Palms menu offers more casual, inexpensive fare. Dance the calories off to the estimable reggae, calypso, and soca sounds of Coco Red or really sweat it out during Chill Wednesdays, and then adjourn to the cozy lounge for an aged rum or single malt. It's equally enticing at lunch, when it exudes a soigné beach bar ambience.

Enjoyable meal

Reef Grill was recommended for the 4th of July because the outdoor dining would provide us a view of the fireworks on Seven Mile Island. Sitting upstairs, right at the railing did just that. The food and service were pretty good and the live music was a nice addition.

Not so hot

Great view of the ocean and nice live music, but the food was unmemorable and the service was not great.

A little suprised.

Hi there, every now and then I scan the web for reviews of the Reef Grill andI am happy to say that they are normally flavourable. (sorry). I am not sure what we did wrong when Colleen joined us for dinner but it must have been good. All our meals are prepared from only fresh ingredients. All our breads, stocks, sauces, soups and desserts are made in house. We strive to do a great job. On another note I am sorry that Carol misses the old beach bar. After

hurricane Ivan when the property was destroyed we felt the need to add seating overlooking the Ocean. This was the one suggestion that we heard the most. It has proved very popular with our diners. I thank everyone for their constructive suggestions and if you wish to contact me directly I can be reached by email at Tropical Regards, Don Loyd
