Fodor's Review

This beautifully restored traditional West Indian home has five rooms (all with bath), accented with lovely antique furnishings, nautical gadgets, maps, model catboats, and bric-a-brac from the Waltons' world travels. Upper-floor units are desirable: their tiny balconies oversee the 500-foot sweep of verdant grounds down to the sea. A spacious, private, split-level seaside cottage called Sea Dreams has a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and Internet access. The tranquil ironshore beach is usually unoccupied; its gazebo has hosted many a wedding ceremony. Walk with owner George, a native Bracker, through the extravagant enchanted landscaping, which includes a tiny exquisite synagogue (which he and his wife constructed themselves from imported Honduran mahogany, Minnesota granite, Ferrara marble, and more), mosaic gazebo, organic garden in a failed swimming pool, and turtle pond with bridge. Breakfasts feature fresh fruit and luscious jellies from the remaining fruit trees (several types of mango, key limes, coconuts, plum, tamarind), wife Lynne's homemade challah French toast, and local dishes like salt cod and plantain.
