Owners of the critically acclaimed De Librije restaurant in the Netherlands and longtime Bonaire visitors, Dutch master chef Jonnie Boer and his wife, Therese, operate this hip restaurant in Delfins Beach Resort. Enjoy some of the island's most exciting and creative fusion fare (miso-cured monkfish, sweetbreads with peanut, coconut, and pineapple)—prepared in an open kitchen—in a gorgeous seaside setting with glassed-in banquettes. This beachfront spot is also open for breakfast and lunch. Reserve the private palapa over the sea, called Table 14, for a special occasion.
44 Punt Vierkant, Kralendijk, n/a Bonaire, Bonaire
An excellent patio eatery at the Royal Palm Mall offers a excellent breakfasts and an eclectic range of soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers for lunch. The vibe shifts at night, when the restaurant morphs into "Avocados," with a special menu devoted to these creamy, nutty-tasting delicacies. There are also rotating theme nights, like Taco Tuesdays, and Sunday brunch is also a treat.
Kaya Grandi 26 F/G, Kralendijk, n/a Bonaire, Bonaire
Zeezicht (pronounced zay-zeekt and meaning "sea view") serves three meals a day and is a Kralendijk institution. The menu features local favorites and Caribbean-inspired dishes. Dine on the terrace overlooking the harbor or in the nautically themed, homey, rough-hewn main room. The location makes it a popular spot for sunset-watchers.
Kaya J.N.E. Craane 12, Kralendijk, n/a Bonaire, Bonaire
This busy waterfront eatery is also one of the most reliable nightspots on the island, so it's always hopping day or night. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily at reasonable prices. Seafood is always featured, as are a variety of sandwiches and salads. The pita sandwich platters are a good lunchtime choice for the budget challenged. Weekends, there's always live entertainment and dancing. This is the place to people-watch on Bonaire, as it seems everyone ends up at City Café eventually.
Hotel Rochaline, Kaya Grandi 7, Kralendijk, Bonaire
The dining room is a harmonious blend of terra-cotta tile floors and rattan furnishings around a limestone half-moon bar. There's also a brick terrace for alfresco dining. Chef-owners Miriam and Martin are especially proud of their Dutch kibbeling (fish in a beer batter served with chili sauce). Those in the know order the Antillean fish soup, a delightful blend of fresh seafood and finely diced carrots and cucumber. The display of local art on the walls changes constantly. It's quite far from downtown, but the view of the lagoon and intimate ambience mean it is definitely worth the drive.
