The trail south from Kralendijk is chock-full of icons—both natural and man-made—that reveal part of Bonaire's history. Rent a vehicle and head out along the Southern Scenic Route. The roads wind through dramatic desert terrain, full of organ-pipe cacti and spiny-trunk mangroves—huge stumps of saltwater trees that rise from the marshes like witches. Watch for wild goats, wild donkeys, and lizards of all sizes.
