With just over 18,000 people, this little island (112 square mi/290 square km) has a real, small-town atmosphere. Kralendijk, the capital, has just 3,000 inhabitants. The entire coastline—from the high-water tidemark to a depth of 200 ft (61 m)—is protected as part of the Bonaire Marine Park, making it one of the best diving destinations in the western hemisphere.
