Paraquet Tourist Apartments
72 South Shore Rd., Paget, PG 04, Bermuda
For those not picky about room furnishings, Paraquet (pronounced \"parakeet\") provides a centrally located, motel-like, no-frills stay. Accommodations are clean and simply adorned. The biggest draw is, at its price, proximity to Elbow Beach, one of the prettiest beaches on the island—a mere ten-minute walk away!
YOU SHOULD KNOW You might be wondering why these generously-sized, ideally-located studios are so inexpensive. While this property makes no claim to being top-of-the-line, its biggest drawback is its lack of amenities. With no pool, spa, gym, views, or beach, you'll have to look elsewhere for entertainment and fun.
Quiet and basic, rooms come with daily housekeeping services, mini fridges, coffeemakers, and microwaves. The shared patio out front is a pleasant spot to relax after a long day at the beach
Opt for a room with a full kitchen if you plan to cook your own meals.
Size varies from modest to spacious, depending on the room. A few have larger, walk-in glass showers, while others have combined showers and tubs.
Since the units are spread across three different buildings, the property doesn't have a central lobby.
Guests receive a 10% discount when they eat at Paraquet Restaurant, located just in front of the apartment units. The casual diner is a hit with the locals and serves an award-winning codfish and potatoes breakfast every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Stock up on snacks at Modern Mart, just a 5-minute walk down South Shore Road.
The closest place to get drinks is at Elbow Beach. Enjoy live music on the terrace or stroll along the sand, cocktail in hand.
Ask for directions to Oleander Cycles' Paget location, located a quick 10-minute walk from the property, and rent yourself a one- or two-person scooter. You'll also be able to call a taxi or hop on a bus from one of the many stops along South Shore Road.
Stroll over to Coco Reef Resort to start your day with a full ocean-view breakfast at Café Coco (11-minute walk). For lunch, dine with the locals at Specialty Inn (8-minute drive). Since 1985, this family-owned diner has been a firm favorite for its affordable, home-style cuisine. Visit on Saturdays before 11 a.m. to try their famous codfish breakfast.
Beer lovers will want to check out North Rock Brewing Company (9-minute drive), an English-style pub that offers five different types of locally-made Bermuda brews. If instead you fancy a martini and canapés, taxi over to Beau Rivage Restaurant & Bar (5-minute drive). The chic outdoor terrace and magical sunsets set the mood for a very romantic evening.
WHY WE LIKE IT
While there's not much on-site, this property's proximity to beaches and landmarks makes it an economical hub for your time in Bermuda. If you're traveling as a group, the two-bedroom suite is an absolute steal. Mingle with the locals at the popular diner at the base of the property or prepare your own meals and just think of all the money you're saving.
