Aggie's Garden & Waterside Café

$, Bermudian, Hamilton

User Rating: **** 3.6

Fodor's Review:

The charm of this tiny restaurant is its location beside the water, just a few hundred yards from Hamilton. A brick stairway through fern-covered walls takes you to a harborside garden planted with herbs and flowers. The open kitchen -- where cooking classes are taught at night -- is on the harbor level of an old Bermuda home. The seating is mostly in the garden, with former church pews and umbrellas over the tables. The house and garden are quite an escape from the surrounding office blocks, and businesspeople often come here for lunch. Some patrons even moor their boats along the dock and skip the stairs altogether. The creative, seasonal menu lists soups, sandwiches, and salads made with locally grown produce, as well as grilled local fish, free-range chicken, and homemade pizza with organic toppings. Daily sweets, such as ginger or oatmeal-nut cookies, and fresh-fruit tarts are perfect with a cup of fair-trade tea or coffee.

Food from the Farm to the Table

Posted by Gretchen from NYC on 10/26/06

The charm of this pint-size waterside eatery is enhanced by its chef/owner Judith Wadson. A former staff writer/photographer for Yachting magazine, she is a talented chef who knows her native Bermuda and is a splendid ambassador for the Island. You should put in that she trained at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA. Her menu is based on locally grown, pesticide-free produce and meats. All baked goods are made from scratch with organic ingredients. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMY! Also, she's now doing dinners to go...which will help those of us on budgets who can't afford to dine out every night in expensive Bermuda, but want to eat sumptuous food.

Spent $50 on lunch for 2 and was starving.

Lunch is extremely expensive. The portions were ridiculously small. I paid $18 for a slice of chicken and vegetable pie. There were barely any chicken and alot of vegetables. Yes, I know I'm in Bermuda and more than happy to pay for food, but give me some food. Don't bother with the food, but I have to admit that the view on the outside dining area was very serene. So insead of lunch, do a drink, desert and a paper. That would be very nice!
