Fodor's Review

At the tiny but chic Lone Star Hotel, top chefs turn the finest local ingredients into gastronomic delights. At lunch, tasty salads, sandwiches, and homemade pizzas are served in the oceanfront bar. After sunset, the casual daytime atmosphere turns trendy. Start with open wild-mushroom and butternut-squash ravioli or jumbo crab cakes with grain mustard rémoulade, followed by seared yellowfin tuna Niçoise, pan-fried sea bass, roasted rack of lamb, simple tagliolini pasta al limone, or dozens of other land, sea, and vegetarian dishes.

Lone Star Review

ARROGANT AND INCONSIDERATE OWNER. We ate at the lone star restaurant on November 28, 2009 for dinner. The food was average except for the fish soup which tasted a week old. Behind our table the owner was smoking a cigar. Because the smoke was going our direction and prevented us to taste the food, we asked the waiter to change our table, and the waiter went to tell the owner who kept smoking anyway. We went to another table and told the owner that

it is hard to eat when you have cigar smoke in your face. He said he owns the restaurant and he can do whatever he wants. He also said don't come back here. We finished our meal at another table. Does a restaurant serve its owner or its customers? Your choice!

Great lunch - great place

This was great. We would have walked along the beach to the Lone Star, but one of the group had a bad knee so we took a water taxi, washed the sand off our feet (they have a water spray) and enetered form the sea side. Everything went right, Fabulous table overlooking the blue Caribbean, fans whiring above to cool us down, helpful and friendly service, really excellent food (better than the Cliff) and it didn't break the bank. (The water taxi did

that!) It was so good that, bearing in mind the other reviews, we must have come on the wrong day. When we return to Barbados, we;ll have lunch there again.

Don't go for the food

If you want to enjoy the beautiful setting adjacent to the westcoast beach, there are few nicer places in Barbados. The food however, was a major disappointment in a week of fine dining on this caribbean island. A waiter recommended a jerk chicken dish that was new on the menu. The curry broth? contained 4 very small bite-sized pieces of dry rubbery chicken than were the same as were served on the chicken skewers as appetizers. When the server ask

me how I was enjoying the meal I described the meal and said that it wasn't edible. She laughed and said sorry and left to see to other tables. I left a full plate of $40 chicken and no one from management paid any attention. The wine was great and the sound of the waves behind us took the sting away somewhat. How upset can you get about a bad meal when in Barbados? Go to Lonestar for drinks and definitely eat elsewhere.
