Crooked Island Lodge

Pittstown Point Landing, , Crooked Island, Bahamas

A true anglers' paradise, this is one of the best fishing destinations in the Bahamas and Caribbean for bone- and deep-sea fishing. Shaded by coconut palms, the remote property on Crooked Island's northwestern tip has miles of powdery beach and views of the emerald waters surrounding Bird Rock Lighthouse. Rooms are basic motel-style units; some with and some without ocean views (book in advance!). The main lodge—which has a restaurant, bar, and library—once housed the Bahamas' first post office. Expect American breakfasts and native seafood dinners and sandwiches for lunch. All-inclusive stay/fish/dine packages are available (seven nights/six days of fishing for $2,400, double occupancy).

PROS

  • mind-bending ocean and beachfront location
  • bar and restaurant that serves three meals a day
  • private airstrip for easy access

CONS

  • take a lot of insect repellent and have it on when you step out of the plane
  • don't go unless you want remote, private, and nothing to do but fish and relax
