The first of Exuma's hotels and granddaddy of the island's omnipresent Peace & Plenty empire, this pink, two-story hotel is in the heart of the action in George Town. Rooms have private balconies—most overlooking the pool with ocean views to the side, although some have full ocean vistas. It doesn't have a true on-property beach, but its Beach Club on Stocking Island is a five-minute ferry shuttle away (free for guests); a land shuttle also transports guests to its sister property's beach. In high season the hotel is known for its Saturday-night parties on the pool patio, where Lermon "Doc" Rolle has been holding court at the bar since the '70s. The indoor bar, which was once a slave kitchen, attracts locals and a yachting crowd, especially during the Family Islands Regatta. At dinner, the hotel's restaurant goes the standard Out-Island route with huge portions of sweet and sour chicken and Danish baby back ribs, its two specialties; French rack of lamb; and porterhouse steak. Breakfast and dinner plans are available, with the flexibility of dining at the resort's sister property.
