$$, Harbour Island
Fodor's Review:
With two connected two-story homes, one built in 1800 and the other in 1825, this lovely inn facing the harbor embodies an understated contemporary-rustic chicness. All five plantation-style bedrooms have harbor views, pastel walls, hand-carved four-poster beds, and large, tiled bathrooms. The owner, Brenda Barry, a former Miss Bahamas, uses the original parlor with highly polished Abaco pine floors as an intimate restaurant ($$$-$$$$), one of the island's finest. The menu is an elegantly prepared blend of Bahamian, European, and Asian cuisines. You can also dine on the porch overlooking the harbor, and in the lovely garden, where there is plenty of comfortable seating. The bar is fabulous, offering premium libations you can't find elsewhere on the island. A hearty breakfast is included in the rate.
