Columbus Monument

Fodor's Review:

No road leads to the Columbus Monument on Crab Cay; you have to make your way along a bushy path. This initial tribute to the explorer was erected by the Chicago Herald newspaper in 1892, far from the presumed site of Columbus's landing. A series of little villages—Polly Hill, Hard Bargain, Fortune Hill, Holiday Track—winds south of here for several miles along Storr's Lake. You can still see the ruins of several plantations, and the deserted white-sand beaches on this eastern shore are some of the most spectacular in the islands. A little farther along is Pigeon Creek, which is a prime spot for bonefishing.
