Junkanoo Expo

  • Address: Prince George Wharf, Nassau, New Providence Island

Fodor's Review:

Handmade floats and costumes used by revelers during the annual Bahamian Junkanoo celebration are exhibited in an old customs warehouse at the wharf's entrance. Junkanoo, which is celebrated yearly on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) and New Year's Day, can be likened to Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro and Mardi Gras in New Orleans -- although Junkanoo is family-oriented, with children in the parades and families in the stands. Visiting the Expo is the next best thing to seeing the festivities in person. The accommodating staff will tell you everything you want to know about Junkanoo, and the colorful displays speak for themselves.
