The Cave

Fodor's Review:

North of Hatchet Bay lies The Cave, a subterranean, bat-populated tunnel complete with stalagmites and stalactites. Pirates supposedly once used it to hide their loot. An underground path leads for more than a mile to the sea, ending in a lofty, cathedral-like cavern. Within its depths, fish swim in total darkness. The adventurous may wish to explore this area with a flashlight (follow the length of guide string along the cavern's floor), but it's best to inquire first at one of the local stores or the Rainbow Inn for a guide. To find the cave, drive north from Hatchet Bay and watch for the vine-covered silo on Queen's Highway's north side. Take the left turn soon thereafter, marked by a white stripe down the center of Queen's Highway. En route to the Cave is Sweeting's Pond, the focus of all sorts of local myths. Some claim there are Loch Ness-like creatures living in it. Others believe that a wrecked plane lies on the bottom.
