Bahama Handprints fabrics emphasize local artists' sophisticated tropical prints in an array of colors. Also look for leather handbags, a wide range of women's clothing, housewares, and bolts of fabric. Ask for a free tour of the factory in back. You can also find their outposts in Marina Village and at Baha Mar.

Mortimer Candies whips up batches of uniquely Bahamian sweet treats daily. Pop in for a sno-cone on a hot day, or buy some bags of bennie cake, coconut-cream candy, or their signature Paradise Sweets in a swirl of the Bahamian flag colors.

When you spot a pirate hanging out on Woodes Rogers Walk, you know you've found the home of this local craft brewery. Inside the shop is Pirate Republic beer to sample—Long John Pilsner, Gold and Haze of Piracy, and the Island Pirate Ale—as well as live music most nights and a limited but tasty grub menu. This small shop situated in a traditional wooden structure is a great place to buy locally made souvenirs and gifts including soaps and oils, hand-painted glassware, jewelry, straw bags, and textiles. The artists and artisans are often on-site.

Bahamacraft Centre offers some top-level Bahamian crafts, including a selection of authentic straw work. Dozens of vendors sell everything from baskets to shell collages inside this vibrantly colored building. You can catch a shuttle bus from Atlantis to the center.

At the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory, delicious Bahamian rum-soaked cakes are made and packaged in tins right on the premises (peek into the bakery) and make a great souvenir. Just make sure you take one home for yourself.

This is a top choice for everything from ball gowns and cocktail dresses to resort wear and bathing suits with all the shoes and accessories for every look. Two additional boutiques can be found at Atlantis The Coral and just outside the gates of Lyford Cay on the western end of the island.

Colombian Emeralds International is the local branch of this well-known jeweler; its stores carry a variety of fine jewelry in addition to its signature gem. There are also branches in Marina Village and at the Atlantis Paradise Island Royal Towers and Beach Towers.

Graycliff carries one of Nassau's finest selections of hand-rolled cigars, featuring leaves from throughout Central and South America. Graycliff's operation is so popular that it has been expanded by the hotel to include an entire cigar factory, which is open to the public for tours, purchases, and even a cigar-rolling lesson. A dozen Cuban men and women roll the cigars; they live on the premises and work here through a special arrangement with the Cuban government. True cigar buffs will seek out Graycliff's owner, Enrico Garzaroli. In addition to the shop in the hotel, there's another Graycliff boutique at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Established in 1929 and magnificently decorated in its Bay Street incarnation behind a Georgian-style facade, John Bull fills its complex with wares from Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Mikimoto, Nina Ricci, and Yves Saint Laurent. The company has seven locations throughout Nassau and in Atlantis and Baha Mar Paradise Island and also owns a number of the better-known high-end boutique brand stores.

Prince George Plaza, which leads from Bay Street to Woodes Rogers Walk near the cruise-ship docks, just east of the International Bazaar, has about two dozen shops with varied wares.

This towering colonial-style marketplace houses hundreds of straw vendors selling straw bags, T-shirts, and other souvenirs. The Straw Market is one place in The Bahamas where bargaining is accepted, so it's best to wander around and price similar items at different stalls before sealing a deal. Besides the wood-carvers on the western side of the market you're not likely to find any locally made items here.
