New Providence and Paradise Islands Sights

Arawak Cay Review

Known to Nassau residents as "The Fish Fry," Arawak Cay is one of the best places to knock back a Kalik beer, chat with locals, watch or join in a fast-paced game of dominoes, or sample traditional Bahamian fare. You can get small dishes such as conch fritters or full meals at one of the pastel-color waterside shacks. Order a fried snapper served up with a sweet homemade roll, or fresh conch salad (a spicy mixture of chopped conch—just watching the expert chopping is a show as good as any in town—mixed with diced onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, and hot peppers in a lime marinade). The two-story Twin Brothers and Goldie's Enterprises are two of the most popular places. Try their fried "cracked conch" and Goldie's famous Sky Juice (a sweet but potent gin, coconut-water, and sweet-milk concoction sprinkled with nutmeg). There's usually a live band on the outdoor stage Friday and Saturday nights.

We lucked out and our cabbie picked us up at Atlantis early and took us to Fish Fry on the way to the airport, I sat and had two Kaliks while we waited for our food and then ate in the cab on the way to the airport. the food was AMAZING. We loved every things from the cracked conch, whole fried fish to the most incredible mac & cheese either of us had ever had! A must. five stars!

I've traveled to Nassau every year for the past 8 years and The Fish Fry is one of the first places that I go. If you're interested in experiencing the "real" Bahamas, then you have to visit this place. This spot is frequented by the locals; this is where they come to socialize and eat. A real treat is seeing and listening to the Junkanoo bands that use this location to practice (depending on the time of year that you visit). I always feel welcome and safe here and can count on an authentic meal and great conch salad (my personal favorite). I highly recommend The Fish Fry to all tourists.
