Hotels Overview

New Providence Island is fortunate to have an extensive range of hotels, from quaint, family-owned guesthouses to the megaresorts at Cable Beach and on Paradise Island. Downtown Nassau's beaches are not beautiful; if you want to be beachfront on a gorgeous white strand, stay on Cable Beach or Paradise Island's Cabbage Beach. Reasons to stay in Nassau include proximity to shopping and affordability (although the cost of taxis to and from the better beaches can add up). Nassau's British Colonial Hilton, for instance, is a top-rate hotel; but its man-made beach, although pretty, can't compare to Cabbage Beach or Cable Beach.

The homey, friendly little spots will probably not be on the beach-and you'll have to go out to eat unless you have access to a kitchen (although some inns will prepare meals for you on request). On the flip side, your stay is likely to be relaxing, low-key, and less removed from everyday Bahamian life. The plush resorts are big and beautiful, glittering and splashy, but they can be overwhelming. In any case, these big, top-dollar properties generally have more amenities than you could possibly make use of, a selection of dining options, and a full roster of sports and entertainment options.
