Pelican Bay Review

Close to the beach and situated on the harbor, Pelican Bay has a tidy modern appeal, and some of its newer suites overflow with character and decorative elements collected from around the world. Building exteriors are fancifully trimmed in West Indian latticework and red barrel-tile roofs. Smartly furnished rooms and suites overlook the pool and whirlpool, the channel, and the marina. The waterfront suites have extras like rain showers, espresso machines, and boxes built into the doors into which fresh pastries are delivered each morning (a full continental breakfast is also available). Pelican Bay is next door to UNEXSO, which makes it popular with divers. It's also only steps away from Port Lucaya Marketplace. The resort provides a ferry shuttle to Taino Beach. Lucaya Beach access is a five-minute walk away.

My wife and I came to Pelican Bay for a long weekend. The property is small, cozy and colorful (especially compared to the very large Radisson across the street). At the time of this review they were adding a new building - likely a new entrance. The rolls in the morning through the door are a nice touch (for those staying in a state room) and the state rooms themselves are spacious. The atmosphere in and around the Sabor restaurant is elegant and pleasant. As others have commented, the easy access to both UNEXSO and the market place make Pelican Bay very convenient. However, for all these pleasant attributes, the service was less than stellar. When we arrived, the person at the front desk seemed annoyed at having to help us. When I called the front desk later that day to find out if we needed dinner reservations at various restaurants (for friday and saturday) it seemed as though I woke her up from her nap - she was barely there and less then helpful.
