Fodor's Review:

A meal at this hillside mansion begins in the elegant parlor, where, over live piano music, drinks are served and orders are taken. It's a rarefied world, where waiters wear tuxedos and Cuban cigars and cognac are served after dinner. When your appetizer is ready, you're escorted into one of several dining rooms. Graycliff's signature dishes include roast rack of lamb and the thermidor-style Lobster Graycliff. Prices are no higher than other top-notch Nassau restaurants -- except for wine: the cellar contains more than 200,000 bottles that have been handpicked by owner Enrico Garzaroli, some running into the tens of thousands of dollars. You can even buy the world's oldest bottle of wine, a German vintage 1727, for $200,000.

great dining experience

Posted by bleu from Athens, Ga on 2/6/08

We have visited Graycliff twice and each time were impressed with the atmosphere, the food and the service, which is a bit on the slow side and so typical Bahamian. If you are used to the fast pace of American Restaurants and want the same, don't go to Graycliff. From listening to the piano with a drink in your hand, being escorted into your dining room where you can smell the flowers through the open windows, starting your first course, it's all like a performance and you are the star. We are going back, soon, and it will be another memorable evening with friends at Graycliff for dinner.

Surviving on past glory

Posted by Lesley from boston on 10/25/06

This restaurant is clearly still doing business because of it's past (way in the past) reputation. We had a truly BAD dining experience. The maitre'd and the waiters were RUDE!! When we asked about a non-smoking table, we heard the owner say to stick us on the porch. Service was non-existent, food was brought and then everyone disappeared. This applied to everyone in the dining room not just our table. Food was served barely warm and sauces had congealed into a gooey mess, even though insultingly told to us by the maitre'd the chef takes all day to make the sauce. I don't THINK so!!!A very disappointing night when we expected to have a great dinner! Spend your money at Cafe Martinique where we had an excellent experience from the second we entered the restaurant!

Awful

Posted by Diane from Somerville, MA on 10/23/06

We went to this restaurant on 10/20/06. Please do not even think about having dinner here. The owner is rude, the Maitre'd is more rude, the food was below average, restaurant will not accommodate dietary restrictions; my friend asked for an extra dinner roll, and the waiter came back 5 minutes later, telling my friend that he (the waiter) "is working on it"; needless to say, my friend did not get another dinner roll; in the menu, the beef is listed as "U.S.D.A." as if that is a good thing - they do not serve PRIME beef; when we finished a bottle of wine, the waiter did not ask if we wanted another one, we had to ask the waiter for another bottle of wine; 10 minutes later he came back saying that there was a problem with the passcard key to get into the wine cellar; 10 minutes later, we had another bottle of wine; in a party of 4, 2 had beef and 2 had fish; needless to say, we all should have had fish; my friend had filet mignon and the inside was cold and the sauce was cold; before dinner, we had to order souffles; they all tasted like coconut when we asked for chocolate; the waiter had to use my spoon to put the sauce in my souffle, and then he left with my spoon. No one came around and asked us how the meal was; waiters did not make eye contact at all (God forbid); the snooty Maitre'd and the rude owner were not at the door to say goodbye or to ask how things were. This is not a gourmet restaurant; this is not a 5 star restaurant; maybe it was at one time - not anymore - save yourself time and money and grief and go some place else. Try NoBu at the Atlantis or Cafe Martinique at the Atlantis or Dunes at the Ocean Club - you will get top quality service and food at these three establishments. Also on the topic of cigars, do not buy them here; you can get them at the Atlantis Hotel in a store where the cigar person rolls his own (and he suposedly works for Greycliff). The cigars are less expensive and the same quality.

Tourist Trap

Posted by Yolanda from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on 8/22/05

The setting is nice and wine list impresive. That's where the fine dining experience ends. Burned steak, $35/glass cognac served with pieces of cork floating inside, sorbets offered as if complimentary and later charged to the bill, finally cigars "accidentally" charged to the bill, this was our experience at Graycliff. It's advertisements are misleading. If you are not accustomed to eating out you will be impressed. If you enjoy fine dining you will be outraged by their claims as one of the best restaurants in the world. Pricey, but that's to be expected. It is a first class tourist trap!
